Providing Patron-Friendly Automation

Libramation’s SCOT Easy-Check system has proven to be an excellent solution to increase library efficiency and patron independence. SCOT allows patrons to manage their own transactions, including viewing current account information, borrowing, renewing and returning library materials. The addition of patron self-check systems significantly reduces handwork for library personnel and frees them to focus on other patron services. This cornerstone of our library automation equipment systems is easily modified to create a “hybrid” unit, capable of handling both barcodes and RFID or can be upgraded to be a pure RFID workstation.

The touch screen monitor features animated prompts and instructions, in a choice of several languages, which allow patrons easily sign-out, renew and return library materials. This Easy-Check unit combines a reader for patron cards plus an optional PIN code “keypad” that can be enabled should the library wish to implement an extra level of security. The top-mounted scanner easily accommodates multiple barcode locations ensuring the system meets the library’s needs. The SCOT System automatically prints a receipt for the patron once the transaction is completed.

Infinity Leg Upgrade

Libramation’s SCOT (Self-Check Out Terminal) is now available with hydraulic legs allowing patrons to adjust the height of the self-check workstation. This workstation can be lowered to a height of just 28” for patrons in wheelchairs and small children and raised to 39” for even the tallest user. All it takes is a push of a button to ensure libraries have an ergonomic self-check for all patrons.

The SCOT (Self Check-Out Technology) Software

Libramation’s Lib~Digit software is capable of handling all SIP protocols (NCIP available Spring 2008) from popular circulation vendors around the world. By supporting Z39.70, SIP1 and SIP2 protocols, the Easy-Check allows communication via TCP/IP, telnet or sockets with library circulation software, including SirsiDynix, Innovative Interfaces, Polaris and TLC.

Electromagnetic Security Systems

The Lib~Digit software is its ability to desensitize all types of Electromagnetic (EM) security strips, including 3M Tattletape™, and/or Checkpoint Anti-Theft Strips on print library material, CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs. Our electromagnetic coil system can desensitizesecurity strips located in a variety of locations other than the typical spine location. Libramation is able to ensure the electromagnetic coils do not damage magnetic media. The Lib~Digit software is designed to look at the format of the item in the automated system first before deciding the method of desensitization.

Patron Card Options

Libramation’s SCOT can handle multiple library card types. The system can handle barcodes, mini key cards, magnetic stripes, “One” card, RFID and/or “Smart” cards . In the case of inter-library loans or forgotten cards, the library may also wish to activate the “no-card” option allowing patrons to enter their barcodes manually on the touch-screen monitor.

Multiple Barcode Locations

Libramation has developed an optimum hardware layout in order to facilitate the checkout of materials with various barcode locations. The barcode scanner provides a visible scanning line and is equipped with a “power save” switch feature. In order to ensure our self-check systems work on installation, each system is bench tested using actual material from a client library.

The Receipt Printer

The SCOT unit comes equipped with an Epson TM-T88IV thermal receipt printer that prints quickly and quietly. The printer is easily accessible from the top of the counter, allowing staff to change paper quickly, or to clear the unit of blockages. It uses a standard 3.27” single-ply thermal paper that is readily available.
